What Do You Stand For?

Decide what you stand for. And then stand for it all the time.

— Clayton M. Christensen

Indecision. We all feel it at times. And it can undermine our best intentions.

You want to get healthy… but the cookies in the pantry are calling your name.

You want to achieve that goal… but Netflix is calling your name.

You want to be honest… but can gain a huge advantage with only a little, white lie.

You want to follow Jesus’ example… but someone treats you unfairly.

Too often, our best intentions are thwarted by our indecision. When we fail to fully commit to our decisions, we leave ourselves open to stumbling and falling in our efforts to be the best we can be. This happens because our indecision forces us to rely on our willpower to make our best decisions. And eventually our willpower will fail us.

We can each overcome this challenge when we fully decide what we stand for, and then stand by our decisions. By choosing what we stand for before we are faced with choices, we can save ourselves from relying on our willpower. This can allow us to consistently remain true to our best intentions, no matter where we might find ourselves.

What decisions about your actions and beliefs have you been hesitant to totally commit to? How would fully committing to that decision change your life?
