Bricks

No one “builds a house”. They lay one brick again and again and again and the end result is a house.

Nearly every big undertaking can be boiled down to a core unit of progress — its brick. A 45-minute gym visit is the brick of getting in great shape. A 30-minute practice session is the brick of becoming a great guitarist.

When you think about your hopes and dreams for the future, what do you envision? What are your dreams? What would you like your life to be? Are these hopes and dreams different from your life today?

If you dreams are different from your reality, what is holding you back? Think for a moment. What is holding you back? The answer to this question may be different for each of us. For some the disparity comes from a lack of focus or self control. For others it is a lack of confidence in our abilities. And yet for others it is just a lack of plan.

So many of these issues can be solved by one thing: consistent action. Just as the greatest mountains are climbed one step at a time, even the wildest of dreams is made into reality by consistent progress.

All major endeavors are built one brick at a time.

The good news is that these tiny steps are easy to take. When you lack self-control, you can rally small feats of willpower to take steps forward. When you lack confidence you can begin to build it by making small, but consistent progress. When you lack a plan, you can start to create one by laying individual bricks.

Don’t worry about the distance between your current life and your wildest dreams. Just start laying bricks and before you know it your dreams will be your reality.

What are the bricks you need to build your dreams? What mortar do you need to hold them together? What tools do you need? How will you start laying the bricks needed to build your dreams today?
