Quick Fixes

There are no quick fixes for the fundamental problems of life.

— Clayton M. Christensen

In my recent posts, I have talked a lot about trials and challenges. We all have challenges and struggles. We all have weaknesses and failings. This is true for all of us.

When we encounter our troubles it is easy to find ourselves praying and hoping for a speedy solution. But the truth is that there are no quick fixes for our problems. The take real time, effort and perseverance to overcome our challenges.

Elder D. Todd Christofferson has counseled: “To deal with something very big, we may need to work at it in small, daily bites. … Incorporating new and wholesome habits into our character or overcoming bad habits or addictions most often means an effort today followed by another tomorrow and then another, perhaps for many days, even months and years. … But we can do it because we can appeal to God … for the help we need each day.”

Like most large undertakings, our problems can be overcome through the accumulated affect of thousands of small steps forward. This kind of consistent effort is not quick, but it is something each of us can do. We can find the small steps forward and then begin putting one foot in front of the other until we come off victorious.

What problems in your life feel insurmountable? What small steps can you take today to start working toward a solution?
