Everyday Miracles

Don’t believe in miracles — depend on them.

— Lawrence J. Peter

We, as humans, have an extreme ability to adapt. We experience this in virtually every area of our lives. At the end of the summer, a day with 50 degree weather will cause us to reach for a coat, but a 50 degree day at the end of winter sees everyone running around in t-shirts and shorts.

We experience this same level of adaptation when we get a new phone or car. When we first get the new item it is exciting and novel. But that newness rapidly wears off and soon that shiny new car or phone is just part of our normal life.

As we think about our ability to adapt in can be helpful to ask ourselves, when was the last time you counted the many blessings and miracles you have in your daily life?

When we take the time to acknowledge the miracles in our lives we will see that our lives are completely full of miracles. The problem is that we have just become accustomed to them. Not only do we have miracles in our lives, but so many aspects of our lives are built on a foundation of miracles. When we come to see this, we can know from our own experience that we can depend on miracles in our lives — and if we can depend on the miracles we already have in our lives, we can have faith in seeing the bigger and better miracles we hope and pray for.

What miracles do you have in your life today and how can they give you hope for future miracles?
